QUESTIONS/FAQ's

Why Only One Couple Per City?
The point of focusing on one individual couple in various cities is to share stories in a way that is powerful, unique and local. By showing gay, lesbian and transgender couples across the US who are committed to each other in a loving relationship and are willing to take that extra step to prove this. We are not discouraging other couples from getting involved in other ways but rather than create a "mass wedding" we are focusing more on the individual people and stories that make up this campaign. This is not meant to exclude anyone but helps to create a more concrete story of the people behind the campaign. In addition to giving the media a diverse, multi-regional story about same-sex marriage and the fight for it.

If you’re not the selected couple in a particular city, you are in no way excluded. Can you still get involved?
Yes, of course!

· Equal in Every State’s tool for raising awareness works for
every individual couple and their ceremony.

· Please notify us of your plans to get married on April 27th or 28th 2002.

· We ask that you pick your own location and hold your own ceremony separate from any other.

· This helps create your own statement of support and individuality.

· We want you to be involved in any way possible.

· You may not be the couple that is covered by the national media but you will be just as important in showing your commitment to yourselves, friends and family and your local community.

· We encourage you to take the same steps in community outreach with the The Marriage Resolution. We will add your name to our couples contact list where press and community groups can contact you if they are looking for more couples from a particular community.

What happens if you do not get a couple from a city in every one of the 50 states?
This gives even more reason to work for the date next year. We can build new alliances and grow the campaigns in states where there is no one.

How are the couples selected?
In cities where there is more interest, we will use a lottery system. We are asking interested couples to contact us by August 1st, 2001.
