GAY/LESBIAN/TRANSGENDER COUPLES JOIN US:

We are looking to bring together couples from various cities in the 50 states of the US to be married in individual ceremonies on Saturday, April 27th 2002 (or Sunday, April 28th an alternative day for certain religious faiths.) We’re looking for couples to represent their city, small or large, as long as it’s in the U.S. One couple will be picked to represent each city. The couples will participate in helping to educate their specific communities, share their story and celebrate their marriage with a wedding ceremony. The symbolic nature of having each state with various cities within it represented will building support in many parts of the country.

As a couple choosing to get involved, we ask that you focus on community outreach to local groups, neighborhood leaders, and political figures making them aware that same-sex couples have identical rights in every way to heterosexual couples.

In order to create a unified message, Lambda Legal Defense Fund along with other organizations have created The Marriage Resolution. It has been signed by thousands of leaders, celebrities, politicians, and individuals. For a partial list of some of the more prominent signatories, click here. The Resolution can serve as framework to help explain what Equal In Every State’s expectations are and to give leaders in your community a document they can endorse. We will use the resolution as a tool to demonstrate how this issue is not isolated to a few states, nor isolated to just homosexual individuals and organizations.

We will select one couple from various cities and states throughout the U.S. to join us in getting married on Saturday, April 27th 2002 (or the alternative day - Sunday, April 28th.) We are asking interested couples to contact us by August 1st, 2001. Cities where there are more than one couple showing interest will be picked by a lottery system.

What are the requirements you ask?

· You are committed to each other as well as to the cause of legalizing marriage for all.

· That you will work with the people, businesses, and organizations in your community by getting them to support your union and the The Marriage Resolution. That on Saturday, April 27th 2002 (or the alternative day - Sunday, April 28th) you will share your marriage with the nation.

Couples Goals:

· Each couple is responsible for planning their own ceremonies. We will offer advice, feedback and suggestions whenever needed.

· Working with local and state organizations in getting them to support and sign the The Marriage Resolution and to build support for your day of celebration.

How We Will Help You:

· We will work with you through the whole process, letting you know what needs to be done, in what stages, and to answer any questions you may have.

· We can show you examples of how to go about getting support for the The Marriage Resolution and give you a list of organizations that have already signed the Resolution in your community. We will be there to support you. In return, we ask that you commit to this plan of Equal In Every State

We are asking interested couples to contact us by August 1st, 2001. In cities where there are more than one couple showing interest the couple representing the city will be picked by a lottery system.
